Almost 1,200 immigrants from over 90 countries attended Delco Center in Northeast Austin last Thursday, September 29 to earn the same rights, benefits, and responsibilities as native-born United States citizens. The citizens completed their naturalization process after they were sworn in by U.S. District Court Judge Robert L. Pitman.
Citizenship and Immigration Services records showed over 700,000 immigrants were naturalized all over the country in 2015. Susan Cooper, who was originally from England, welcomed the development, saying, “It’s financial security, [and] an honor to friends I’ve lived and worked with. Now I’m part of the country instead of just a visitor.” Thirty-eight-year-old Kritan Gurung, originally from Nepal, said that now that he is a U.S. citizen, he can invite his parents for a visit very soon.
