Protestors marched together in Austin on February 21 from Texas’ State Capitol to the Governor’s Mansion to express their displeasure over an injunction that was ordered against President Barack Obama’s new national comprehensive immigration reform measure, KXAN reported.
Austin Mayor Steve Adler declared his full support for the protestors – many of whom were immigrants themselves – and along with them urged Governor Greg Abbott to join them in their cause, saying, “if we take people out of the shadows, then we’re going to be stronger as a community.”
Other Texas leaders, however, have differing opinions. For instance, Round Rock Representative John Rice Carter said the judge was right to stop Obama’s order, claiming the president overreached his powers.
A federal district court in Texas issued an injunction against Obama’s executive action; the executive action effectively delayed the deportation certain illegal immigrants in the country.
